Book:
Angels' Blood by Nalini Singh - Book
1 of the
Guild Hunters
Berkley Publishing ISBN: 9780425226926
Nalini Singh introduces readers to a world of
beauty and bloodlust, where angels hold sway
over vampires. Vampire hunter Elena
Deveraux is hired by the dangerously beautiful
Archangel Raphael. But this time, it's not a
wayward vamp she has to track. It's an archangel
gone bad. The job will put Elena in
the midst of a killing spree like no other --
and pull her to the razor's edge of passion.
Even if the hunt doesn't destroy her, succumbing
to Raphael's seductive touch just may. For when
archangels play, mortals break.
The character development is absolutely amazing.
The plot is unique and well paced.
Quite simply Angels' Blood is awesome!
I can hardly wait to read the next book in the series!

Book:
Hostage to Pleasure by Nalini Singh - Book 5 of the Psy/Changeling
series
Back cover blurb:
HOSTAGE TO PLEASURE
BERKLEY
BOOKS September 2008
With her darkly seductive Psy/Changeling
world, Nalini Singh has created "a sensual, dangerous adventure not to
be missed" (New York Times bestselling author Lora Leigh). Now, as the
deadly Psy Council tightens its grip, a rebel Psy scientist finds
herself at the mercy of a changeling who has sworn vengeance against her
kind...
Separated from her son and forced
to create a neural implant that will mean the effective enslavement of
her psychically gifted race, Ashaya Aleine is the perfect Psy--cool,
calm, emotionless...at least on the surface. Inside, she's fighting a
desperate battle to save her son and escape the vicious cold of the
PsyNet. Yet when escape comes, it leads not to safety, but to the lethal
danger of a sniper's embrace.
DarkRiver sniper Dorian
Christensen lost his sister to a Psy killer. Though he lacks the
changeling ability to shift into animal form, his leopard lives within.
And that leopard's rage at the brutal loss is a clawing darkness that
hungers for vengeance. Falling for a Psy has never been on Dorian's
agenda. But charged with protecting Ashaya and her son, he discovers
that passion has a way of changing the rules...
Summary:
The
book is set in the 2080’s.
Outside of “normal” humans, shapeshifter and psychically talented
people, known as Psy, are common place and have their own cultures.
Shifters society is organized in packs or clans depending on the animal
they change into. The alpha
is leader of individual groups, with Sentinels that protect and police.
No one person rules all the shifters.
They tend to be loosely associated through treaties and
alliances. The Psy branch
of the population is set up in family groupings, who often run
companies, similar to clan houses.
They are overseen by a ruling board known as The Counsel.
The Psy are all linked telepathically on the Psynet, sort of like
a mental world wide web.
Due to the increased rate of mental imbalance and violent behavior
related to their mental talents, a conditioning called Silence was
instated. This conditioning
effectively wiped emotion out of the equation, while virtually
eliminating the previous violence.
However, with the suppression of the darker emotions, malevolent
forces have crept into the psynet, causing sociopaths and serial killers
to be created. Though small
in number, the impact on all populations is devastating.
Keeping this information under wraps is The Counsels job, to make
Silence appear the flawless system they wish it would be.
Because of the fundamental differences in their natures,
relations between the Psy and the Changelings are strained, if not down
right hostile.
Review:
If you are into paranormal
romance, this is a must have.
If you aren’t into paranormal romance, this would be a good
series to try. The series,
as a whole, is solid. Not a bad book in the bunch.
Main and supporting characters are well developed.
The plot manages to be fresh, while maintaining consistency
throughout the series. Each
story builds more layers on an already well developed world with good
flow from start to finish.
Reading all of the books in order would give you the best experience,
but reading it as a stands alone is totally doable. Grade: -A

Nalini Singh has done it again, this is her fifth story in her Psy/Changeling Series and she does not disappoint. Singh continues to excel at world building and this time around she has added the human touch. This is the first of Singh’s Psy/Changeling series in which one of the main characters, Talin McKade, is human
Clay is a Dark River sentinel, who as a child living in the slums, killed to protect his only friend, Talin. He was locked away from all that he knew and was later told that Talin died in a car wreck. Clay is losing a battle with his sanity and the only person who could help is dead or so he was led to believe. When Talin suddenly reappears in his life after more than 20 years asking for help, Clay has a hard time letting go of the past.
Talin has overcome her traumatic past to work with gifted children from low income families. The children she has grown to care for are mysteriously disappearing and losing their young lives. Talin has decided she must find the courage to face her biggest fear and ask the man she betrayed for help.
I enjoyed this book even though it was one of the darker books from the Psy/Changling series. However, the mystery of the disappearing children and the conflict between Talin and Clay made this an enjoyable read. I cannot wait for the next book in this series and hope Singh will keep up the excellent work.

Julie Says:
Whether you normally read erotica or not, this book is a
great find. I have never fallen in love with the male lead
in a book as fast as I did in this one. This is a
contemporary novel that explores the themes of emotional
isolation and childhood trauma with sensitivity and a sense
of reality often absent in stories of this ilk. No overnight
solutions here. Elle and Dan are both young professionals
who casually meet at a candy store and go have a drink
together. Not much happens that night but Dan is definitely
a keeper. They go on to have an incredibly hot affair that
includes a threesome at one point, but I have to tell you it
is the gentlest ménage I've ever seen written. I love good
dialogue in a story and the way Dan talks to Elle,
especially during the sex scenes, is very provocative.
There's also a great girlfriends sub-plot, with an outgoing
co-worker, that really points up some of Elle's issues with
allowing people to get close to her. To sum up, if you want
to read a book with a great story and characters, a
hero that makes you want to look him up in the phone book,
and sex that'll make you fan yourself, read this book.

Rebecca Says:
This is the third book in Singh’s, Psy/Changeling series and once again she does not let you down. Like her previous books in this series,
Slave to Sensation and Visions of Heat, Singh does an excellent job of world building. You can see the flaws of the main characters, Judd Lauren and Brenna Shane Kincaid, but you still want them to be together.
I just want to say something first, damn, Judd is HOT. He is supposed to be cold as ice, he is anything but that. I love that he is fighting himself but just cannot stay away from Brenna. Judd was an Arrow, the best of the best, an elite soldier who worked for the Psy Council. He left the PsyNet and gave up everything to protect the children of his family, who were slated to be rehabilitated. Rehabilitation for the Psy is not like the rehab you are familiar with, basically everything that makes you who are is erased and you end up an empty shell. Judd, a soldier who no longer has a purpose, becomes an assassin.
Brenna was first introduced in Slave to Sensation, during which she was kidnapped and tortured by a Psy serial killer. A SnowDancer wolf, she barely survived the attack and is still trying to heal. When a packmate is murdered in the SnowDancer den, Brenna starts to feel out of control and that she is going crazy. Judd’s protective instincts kick in when it becomes clear that someone wants Brenna dead and he will do anything to keep her safe.
I really enjoyed this book. You can almost feel Judd’s pain as he tries to break from his conditioning and become part of Brenna’s pack. Brenna is fighting to become more than just a victim.
I hope you buy this book when it comes out in September and enjoy it as much as I did. I will definitely be buying the next Psy/Changeling book that Nalini Singh is releasing in October 2007.

Julie Says:
In this third novel of the Psy/Changeling series, Nalini Singh reveals even
more of the complicated and fascinating world of the Psy, beings who live almost
completely without emotion and are connected with each other psychically. She
also delves much more deeply into the world of the Changelings, gorgeous
shape-shifters who are definitely beings of touch and emotion. Judd is an Arrow,
an assassin for the Psy, who leaves the Psy social structure to save his
extended family. Brenna is a Changeling who has been brutalized by a sociopathic
Psy in a previous installment. Judd is the only one who is able to make Brenna
feel safe after she is rescued. When Brenna has a vision that frightens her, it
sets the two of them on a path of discovery of a traitor and a plot to make the
Psy even more powerful. On the way, the two start falling in love and learning
to trust, Brenna again and Judd for the first time.
The story takes a while to heat up, but when it does, watch out! This is a very
satisfying read with a great story and lots of sexual tension that pays off in
the end.
